On The Road with "The Traffic Guy"

Sunday June 15, 2003    Beverly Hills, California

Take a walk down fashionable Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills on any day and you will find trendy shops, interesting people and maybe a celebrity or two.  But each year on Father's Day, Rodeo Drive is the setting for the Concours on Rodeo, an outstanding exhibition of collector cars of all types.  From hot rods and woodies to classic touring cars and convertibles, you'll find them all at this free-to-the-public event.

While there were many different makes and models on display, Ferrari automobiles of the past and present were highlighted.  Take a look at this new Enzo Ferrari.  Named after the company's founder, this little beuaty has 660 horsepower, does 0 - 60 in less than four seconds, and a price tag just under $700,000.00!  For strength and low weight, the chassis is made of a carbon fiber and aluminium honeycomb.  Well, nice car, but I have a feeling that the person who owns it will either be stuck behind me in traffic on the freeways of southern California or may end up with a speeding ticket or two.   Plan to buy one?  Drive safely or I'll see you in traffic school!

Check out a few of the classic Ferrari automobiles that were on display at the Concours...

1965 Ferrari 275 GTS

1965 Ferrari Berlinetta 275 GTB

1954 Ferrari 250 Europa

One of the most impressive vehicles
at the show was this gorgeous 1939
Maybach SW 38 Roadster from the
collection of Dorothy & Harold Meyerman
of Palm Springs, California. The
Maybach SW 38 was in production
from 1936 to 1939. The sleek design
of this car makes it a real eye catcher!

Is a Mercedes more to your liking?
How about this beautiful 1956
Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing
owned by world-renowned car collector
and enthusiast Bruce Meyer of
Beverly Hills. Meyer received the
1999 Meguiar's Award for his contribution
to the collector car hobby.

And speaking of well known car collectors, Tonight Show host Jay Leno was on hand to show off one the large, powerful, gaz-guzzling vehicles from his extensive collection of nearly 100 unique automobiles.
